Performed in specially prepared rooms where the temperature is taken up to c.70-100° C by means of suitable stoves.

After this first “bath” of dry air (which may last 10-15 minutes) you continue with a “heated steam bath" (Löyly or Aufguss), obtained by throwing water onto red hot stones (lasts 15-20 minutes).

In this way, by saturating the room with humidity, abundant sweating is encouraged. In northern countries this phase is followed by a bath in ice-cold water, while in others a simple ice-cold shower is used.
